India Approves Major Purchase of Indigenous Kamikaze and FPV Drones

Following the success of Operation Sindoor, a swift expansion of combat-grade drone capabilities has been initiated throughout India’s border formations. In response to growing security concerns, procurement and deployment efforts have accelerated to improve tactical options and increase readiness.

Kamikaze and FPV (First-Person View) drone orders have been expedited through emergency procurement channels, with systems that can engage quickly and precisely being given priority. The company’s Striker FPV platform was validated for frontline use during trials carried out by Noida-based IG Drones in high-altitude sectors along the Line of Actual Control. The drone’s indigenous heritage was emphasized as supporting domestic defense manufacturing objectives, and it was positioned as a multipurpose asset appropriate for intelligence gathering, surveillance, and short-range attack missions.

The Striker’s operational features have been shown to facilitate rapid-response operations: the platform can reach flight readiness in less than five minutes, maintain speeds of up to 140 km/h, stay in the air for about half an hour, and operate within a 4-kilometer radius. It has been demonstrated that a precision payload-release mechanism and a 1 kg payload capacity allow for the targeted delivery of sensors or munitions, making the system suitable for both combat and reconnaissance missions. The design’s resilience under harsh environmental conditions has been confirmed by performance validation conducted over a variety of terrain types, including extremely high-altitude areas.

The Uttar Pradesh government and IG Drones have formally signed an MOU to create a drone production and research and development center inside the UP Defence Corridor. The agreement aims to establish the region as a strategic hub for aerospace and defense innovation by facilitating approvals, permissions, and access to state and central incentives.

Operation Sindoor, in which a number of locally built platforms were used and later acknowledged for their combat efficacy, demonstrated the operational value of indigenous kamikaze FPV systems. The strategic value of low-cost, high-impact FPV and kamikaze drones has been shown to increase in conflict zones across the world, from Ukraine to West Asia, which has increased demand for domestic production.

With mass-production targets set to satisfy both potential export markets and national security requirements, plans have been laid out to increase the production of armored Striker FPV units. The Striker has been portrayed as evidence of a larger movement in defense technology toward self-reliance with the goal of providing tactical systems that are affordable and quickly deployable to meet the demands of the contemporary battlefield.
