The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Nayagarh held a live drone demonstration for pesticide spraying over six hectares of farmland as part of an effort to modernize agriculture. Under the direction of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, the initiative demonstrated how cutting-edge technology can revolutionize how farmers safeguard their crops against pests and diseases.

Drones were used to swiftly and effectively spray pesticides across paddy fields during the demonstration in Sajjanpada. Drones finished the job in a fraction of the time while guaranteeing uniform coverage, in contrast to labor-intensive and time-consuming traditional methods. Officials noted that this makes farming safer for the environment and farmers by preventing the overuse of chemicals and saving valuable time during crucial crop stages.

The initiative’s potential to lower human exposure to dangerous substances was one of its main selling points. Farmers have historically been at risk for health problems when spraying pesticides, but exposure levels are greatly reduced when drones perform the task. Small and marginal farmers, who frequently deal with a lack of labor and growing input costs, are also anticipated to gain from the technology. Farmers can increase productivity and save labor costs by decreasing their reliance on manual spraying.

Drones are increasingly regarded as essential instruments for precision agriculture, in addition to pest control.
