DRDO’s Samrakshak Exhibition Puts Spotlight on Advanced Anti-Drone Warfare Systems
The Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL) put on a one-day show in Hyderabad called Samrakshak to show off a wide range of homegrown counter-drone technologies made by different labs that are part of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The event showed that India is putting more and more effort into improving its defense against new aerial threats, especially when it comes to unmanned systems.
During the show, advanced systems from several DRDO labs were on display. These systems showed a complete, multi-layered approach to counter-drone operations. The Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) in Bengaluru showed off their radar technologies as important tools for finding and following aerial threats. It was also shown that DLRL in Hyderabad has radio frequency detection and neutralization systems that can find and break up drone communication links.
The Instruments Research and Development Establishment (IRDE) in Dehradun showed off their electro-optical and infrared systems to show how well they can track and watch things. Directed energy technologies, such as high-energy laser systems made by the Centre for High Energy Systems and Sciences (CHESS) in Hyderabad, were shown to be advanced ways to quickly and accurately neutralize hostile drones.
Also on display were high-power microwave technologies from the Microwave Tube Research and Development Centre (MTRDC) in Bengaluru, which showed how they can disable the electronic systems of unmanned aerial vehicles. The Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) in Kochi also showed off acoustic sensors that show how sound-based detection can help people understand what’s going on in complicated situations. The exhibition included weaponized drone platforms from DRDO’s DYSL-AT facility in Dundigal. This showed how modern warfare strategies combine offensive and defensive elements.
Dr. Samir V. Kamat, the chairman of DRDO, was there. He praised the work of different labs on making better counter-drone systems. It was said that these kinds of shows are very important for getting everyone on the same page and making it easier to plan for new security threats.
Dr. B. K. Das, the Director General of Electronics and Communication Systems, also talked about how important it is for everyone to work together to improve counter-drone capabilities. There was a lot of talk about how these technologies are becoming more important in modern warfare and how defense research institutions need to keep working together and coming up with new ideas.
