Mumbai Bans Drones and Flying Objects During Ganesh Visarjan for Security

Mumbai bans drones and flying objects during Ganesh Visarjan for Security

Drones and other aerial platforms will be prohibited in the city from September 6 to October 5, 2025, according to a temporary ban announced by Mumbai Police. The decision, which is made in accordance with Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, aims to increase security during the annual Ganesh Visarjan celebrations, which attract large crowds.

In addition to drones, the prohibitions also apply to hang gliders, hot air balloons, paragliders, microlight aircraft, and paramotors. According to officials, these flying objects could be a security risk in crowded places, particularly during big events like Visarjan processions, when there is a greater chance of mishaps or abuse.

One of Mumbai’s busiest festive times, when processions, traffic detours, and increased security are common, falls during the month-long ban. While averting any incidents that might jeopardize safety, authorities are striving to guarantee seamless immersion ceremonies at significant locations.

The police have banned the photography and online distribution of partially submerged idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Gauri in addition to the restrictions on aircraft. Officials stressed that if widely disseminated, such photos could offend people and disrupt communal harmony.

The grand immersion ceremonies held throughout Mumbai today marked the end of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, which started on August 27. Anant Chaturdashi was celebrated with music, prayers, and cultural performances by thousands of devotees who participated in the processions. In order to maintain safety throughout the holiday season, the drone ban will not be lifted even after Visarjan.
