Telangana Leads with First-Ever Transgender Drone Pilot Training Program in India
Telangana has made a big step toward making the quickly growing drone industry more accessible by completing the first group of DGCA-certified drone pilot training just for transgender people. The Telangana Aviation Academy in Begumpet had sixteen students from all over the state, including Hyderabad, Warangal, and Karimnagar, finish the program. This was one of the first of its kind in India.
The training was very thorough and covered a lot of technical ground, including rules for flying UAVs, hands-on piloting, putting together equipment, managing spare parts, and using a simulator. When they finished, each candidate got two certifications: one from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and one from the academy itself. This made them qualified to fly drones anywhere in the country.
This project is happening at a time when the drone industry in India is gaining a lot of traction. As more and more unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are used for things like monitoring crops, surveying land, logistics, and industrial inspections, the need for trained and certified drone operators has been steadily rising. It seems like the program is meant to turn this demand into a structured job path.
Dinakar Devireddy, who runs the Telangana Aviation Academy, said that flying drones requires a certain level of technical knowledge. He also said that the industry is growing so quickly that newly certified pilots have a good chance of finding work soon.
Telangana’s move into drone training is a big change in how the state helps transgender people learn new skills. Instead of focusing on traditional trades, the state is now focusing on high-demand, technical jobs. These pilots now have a DGCA licence, which puts them in a field where certified operators are still hard to find. This gives them an edge in the formal job market.
