India’s Space & Drone Industry Set for Massive 5X Growth, 2 Lakh New Jobs Coming

A report said on Friday that India’s aerospace, drones, and space tech industry is likely to grow more than five times to USD 44 billion by 2033. This will create more than 2 lakh new jobs for engineers, researchers, data scientists, and others.
The aerospace, drones, and space tech industry is quickly changing from a research-driven field to a full-fledged industry, thanks to government reforms, private-sector involvement, and international partnerships, according to a report from Adecco India, a company that helps people find jobs.
The report said that the country’s drone and space-tech industry will create more than 2 lakh new jobs for engineers, researchers, data scientists, and business people, among others.
It also said that new roles like Space Policy Analysts, Robotics Engineers, Avionics Specialists, and GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) experts are becoming important for India’s space goals.
The report’s numbers and insights come from data collected from more than 100 Adecco clients and other sources of market research.
“India is ready to become a global space hub because of its strong government vision and thriving startup ecosystem. This will open up a lot of job opportunities for people with skills in engineering, research, data, and business,” said Deepesh Gupta, Director of Adecco India and Head of General Staffing.
Gupta said that areas like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Pune are expected to offer the most opportunities. For example, niche roles in avionics, cryogenics, ATDC (Altitude Determination and Control Systems), Remote Sensing Specialists, and Space Habitat Engineer pay 20–30% more than jobs in technical fields.
The Indian Space Policy 2023, a growing base of over 250 space startups, and a historic Rs 1,000 crore VC fund under IN-SPACe to encourage innovation and private-sector involvement are all important parts of this growth.
“Diversity will be a key part of India’s space workforce.” The WISE Fellowship, the Vigyan Jyoti Programme, the ISRO Young Scientist Programme (YUVIKA), and the SAMRIDH Scheme are just a few examples of programs that are already helping more women get into technical fields, research, and business.
The Gaganyaan mission, India’s participation in the Axiom-4 ISS program, and the building of the country’s own space station are all upcoming events that are likely to increase the demand for talent in the ecosystem.
The Indian space economy is currently making up about 2% of the global market. According to the report, the government wants to grow this to USD 44 billion by 2033, with USD 11 billion coming from exports. This would give India 7–8% of the global space economy.
