Drone Spraying of Urea, Pesticides Begins in UP; 12 Acres Covered in an Hour

The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh has started a drone-based crop protection program in six districts as part of a pilot project, marking a significant step toward modernizing agriculture and increasing farm productivity. By using drones to spray pesticides and nano urea, the program significantly cuts down on the amount of time and labor needed for crop management.
Drones are being used to provide precision spraying over agricultural fields in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Bahraich, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, and Kanpur Nagar as part of the initiative. These drones, which can cover 3 to 12 acres in an hour, are anticipated to increase productivity, guarantee timely crop care, and lower post-harvest losses brought on by delayed chemical application.
The larger objective of doubling farmers’ income and moving toward technology-driven agriculture is in line with this action. To encourage scientific, scalable, and sustainable farming methods, the project is being carried out under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) and the Atmanirbhar Krishak Samanvit Vikas Yojana.
The state has started nine drone-based projects as part of the rollout, including one each in Lucknow, Ghaziabad, and Kanpur Nagar, and two each in Gorakhpur, Bahraich, and Muzaffarnagar. To ensure long-term sustainability and ease the adoption of the new system, farmers are receiving training in drone operation and contemporary agronomic practices.
Officials claim that the drones also improve crop health monitoring by enabling more focused interventions and real-time precision spraying, which can greatly lower crop damage and boost yields.
In order to further demonstrate its dedication to a technologically enabled agricultural revolution, the government intends to extend the program to additional districts in the future. Drone use and scientific methods training for farmers are anticipated to be key components in advancing smart agriculture throughout the state.
The Yogi government’s project, which incorporates innovation into traditional farming, has the potential to revolutionize the industry and establish a new standard for profitable and sustainable agriculture in Uttar Pradesh.
