Kerala Police Enhances Security with Advanced GPS Spoofing System
26.11.2024: The Kerala Police Department has announced the acquisition of a GPS spoofing technology in order to boost security against unauthorized drone activities, notably in restricted zones and during VIP visits. This innovative technology is poised to transform how rogue drones are intercepted and controlled.
What is GPS Spoofing?
The GPS spoofing device operates by sending out louder radio frequency signals that resemble authentic GPS signals. By changing coordinates in real time, authorities may take control of unlawful drones and safely steer them to specified secure places. Unlike standard anti-drone methods, which deactivate drones in mid-flight, this strategy provides a controlled and non-destructive manner to deal with prospective threats.
A Step Beyond Existing Anti Drone Systems
Currently, Kerala Police deploys anti-drone devices that deactivate drones in mid-air, but these systems have limits, particularly in the face of advancing drone technologies. The new GPS spoofing technology overcomes these issues by allowing drones to be safely piloted rather than instantaneously neutralized.
To supplement the GPS spoofing technology, anti-drone capabilities are being integrated into police vehicles, enabling for quick deployment during security operations.
Additional investments in Drone Technology
As part of the Rs. 5.5 crore budget for the cyber section, the Kerala Police will add 10 smart drones to its fleet, one for each district. These drones, priced at Rs. 15 lakh each, have advanced monitoring capabilities and a range of up to 400 meters. They will be employed in high-risk tasks like disaster management and forest surveillance, as well as everyday traffic monitoring and surveillance.
Enhancing Public Safety
The incorporation of GPS spoofing technology and the deployment of advanced drones represent a proactive step toward protecting public spaces from UAV misuse. This program illustrates the Kerala Police Department’s dedication to staying ahead of any rogue drone threats.
Kerala Police is setting the standard for law enforcement agencies in efficiently controlling UAV-related security concerns by implementing cutting-edge techniques such as the GPS spoofing system.
