Massive Security Cover for Amarnath Yatra: 50,000 CRPF, Drones, Bomb Squads, Dogs Deployed

Authorities will use surveillance drones, bomb disposal units, and canine squads along the two designated pilgrimage routes as part of a stepped-up security strategy for this year’s Amarnath Yatra. To ensure safety, the CRPF will have its largest-ever presence during the 38-day religious journey.

Along the yatra route, nearly 50,000 members of the CRPF and the J&K Police will be stationed. Among their duties will be the detection and neutralization of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) through road-opening operations. In order to respond quickly in an emergency, Quick Reaction Teams will also be positioned strategically.

Convoys will be escorted by CRPF units with satellite phones, and all feeder roads to the National Highway will be closed to ensure pilgrims’ safety. All convoys will also have signal jammers installed to thwart threats that are triggered remotely.

Compared to last year’s 52-day schedule, this year’s yatra is substantially shorter. But there are still a lot of security concerns, particularly after the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed 25 tourists and one local. Following that tragic event, there was a dramatic uptick in violence, and India launched Operation Sindoor to target Pakistan’s terror infrastructure. Indian forces conducted precise retaliatory strikes on strategic enemy military locations in response to Pakistan’s attempts to attack Indian military installations and civilian areas.

To allow for real-time tracking during the trip, security personnel will continue to equip pilgrims and convoy vehicles with radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. Rapid response teams will be ready to act right away in the event of any threat, and drones will continuously scan the area for questionable activity.
