Drone Revolution in Telangana Farms: Govt Offers Subsidised Agri Drones

As part of its efforts to modernize farming methods and lower cultivation costs, the Telangana government intends to give farmers agricultural drones at subsidized pricing, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced on Monday.

The minister was speaking following the launch of an agricultural drone at Chinthagurthi in the Khammam district‘s Raghunadhapalem mandal. In order to assist farmers comprehend and efficiently use drone technology, he said the state would also implement structured training programs. As part of this endeavor, a pilot project has been started in partnership with Agriva, in which pesticides are specifically sprayed on disease-affected areas of crop fields using drones outfitted with satellite-assisted technology.

The minister emphasized the importance of sustainable farming and encouraged farmers to use cutting-edge techniques that reduce input costs while raising farm revenue. While warning farmers against overusing fertilizers and pesticides, which can eventually deteriorate soil health, he promoted the use of advanced equipment and scientific techniques to increase productivity and profitability.

Regarding fertilizer use, the minister stated that there are now enough urea stocks on hand, but he voiced alarm over reports of farmers applying up to 10 to 12 quintals of urea per acre. He cautioned that if these behaviors are not changed, fertile land may eventually become unproductive.

The government intends to update soil health data on a regular basis and give farmers comprehensive reports on the fertility of their farms in order to combat soil degradation. Additionally, officials have been instructed to step up awareness initiatives aimed at lowering cultivation expenses without sacrificing agricultural yields.

The majority of farmers in the state are small and marginal farmers, thus the minister also urged manufacturers of agricultural machinery to create equipment specifically designed to meet their needs. P. Srija, an additional district collector, attended the event as well.
