Odisha Police to Deploy Advanced Anti-Drone System During Puri Rath Yatra

In an effort to improve aerial security surrounding the temple town, Director General of Police (DGP) Y. B. Khurania declared on Sunday that the Odisha Police would implement a state-of-the-art anti-drone system during the Puri Rath Yatra on June 27.
Following an earlier TOI report dated April 2, which highlighted the government’s plan to equip law enforcement agencies with anti-drone capabilities to counter unauthorized UAV activity across Odisha, the deployment represents the state’s first operational use of such technology.
“During Rath Yatra, the anti-drone system will make its debut. After examining the security setup in Bhubaneswar, Khurania declared, “We are introducing this cutting-edge technology to ensure foolproof security during the celebrations.” “Any rogue drones entering the no-fly zone around the temple premises will be effectively detected, tracked, and neutralized by the system,” he continued.
The program is an important component of the overall security strategy being put in place for the well-known religious occasion that brings thousands of devotees, including VVIP visitors, to Puri.
The DGP claims that a specialized private organization has been hired to implement and oversee the anti-drone technology. With the help of optical sensors, radio frequency analyzers, and radar-based detection, the system can automatically detect and take down unauthorized drones while preserving the smooth operation of police surveillance drones.
Khurania confirmed the deployment of 300 AI-enabled CCTV cameras to assist with traffic control, crowd management, and general security operations in addition to the aerial defense. Additionally, a smartphone app is being created to assist followers in finding parking lots and obtaining additional police services. Throughout the event, all security measures will be coordinated by a state-of-the-art command and control center.
“Given the scale and religious importance of Rath Yatra, we are leaving no stone unturned,” Puri SP Vinit Agrawal said, highlighting the importance of the improved measures. Our security infrastructure will gain a vital layer from the AI surveillance and anti-drone system.
