50+ Anti-Drone Units Deployed as India Launches Operation SHIVA for Amarnath Yatra

50 plus anti-drone units deployed as India launches operation SHIVA for Amarnath Yatra

In a daring and cutting-edge action to protect the 38-day Amarnath Yatra, the Indian Army launched Operation SHIVA 2025, combining over 50 counter-drone systems to eradicate any possible aerial threats along the pilgrimage path. Concerns about drone-assisted threats from across the border have increased since the deployment follows the Pahalgam terror attack, which targeted 26 pilgrims.

Operation SHIVA, one of India’s most extensive peacetime security deployments, was initiated in close coordination with the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and civil administration. This initiative is specifically designed to counter asymmetric threats from terrorist groups backed by Pakistan during the holy Yatra, in the wake of the high-impact Operation Sindoor.

The Army has started ongoing UAV surveillance missions and live drone monitoring of the pilgrimage route, including the holy cave, to guarantee constant situational awareness. Every movement is being tracked by high-resolution PTZ cameras, real-time satellite links, and aerial drones, allowing for quick and well-coordinated reactions to new threats.

With the help of sophisticated counterterrorism procedures, secure digital communication channels, and AI-enhanced surveillance tools, over 8,500 soldiers have been mobilized. Through strategic prophylactic deployment, counter-insurgency presence, and disaster-preparedness units, special attention has been paid to securing the Pahalgam and Baltal routes.

To address dynamic terrain challenges, such as the quick building and maintenance of bridges and railroads, Engineer Task Forces are deployed. With more than 150 medical personnel spread across several aid stations and a 100-bed field hospital, medical readiness is equally strong. To support high-altitude medical emergencies, more than 200,000 liters of oxygen storage, sophisticated dressing stations, and oxygen booths have also been installed.

While specialized Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), Bomb Disposal Units, and EME detachments are prepared for quick mobilization, the Army’s signal corps makes sure that communication runs smoothly over the difficult terrain. Provisioned rations for 25,000 people, tent cities, water supply points, and earthmoving equipment that is ready to handle any disruption—natural or man-made—are all part of the pilgrims’ logistical preparedness.

Operation SHIVA 2025 demonstrates a state-of-the-art combination of technological superiority and operational readiness, from air support via standby helicopters to convoy tracking using drones. The operation, which was centered on multi-agency cooperation, is evidence of the Indian Army’s dedication to making sure that lakhs of pilgrims have a safe and spiritually satisfying journey.
